Chemistry, applied to clay
I am a chemist and a ceramic artist, and the work lives where those two overlap. I formulate my own glazes, chase unusual chemistries for surfaces closer to mineral or alien biology than to pottery, and print forms in clay that would be difficult to throw by hand.
Local material goes into the firings: redwood needles and oak leaves from around the studio, and wild clay dug near Boulder Creek.
