Frozen Fire is a ceramic wall piece that showcases my new experimental work with silver and bismuth lustre glazes using a raku fuming process. The refractive and reflective quality of lustre glaze colors result from a nano-layer of metallic crystals formed in the glaze surface during the fuming process, resulting in vibrant, elusive, otherworldly colors that burst to life when viewed in different light sources. This glaze paintings” is truly emblematic of the modern evolution of ceramic art crossing over into the world of chemistry and material science.
This ceramic wall sculpture or "glaze painting" was made using a raku / lustre glazing technique that I developed using a technique from glassblowing modified to work with ceramic glazes. This is not a traditional raku process and is able to develop lustre colors that are permanent and will not oxidize with time. My ceramic glazes are one of a kind and unique from other ceramic artists. The unique work is purely a non-functional wall art piece to be displayed only on a wall and comes ready to hang.
